PressOrBuild makes money from affiliate commissions. When you follow one of our outbound links and buy something, the company pays us a referral fee. You pay the same price you would have paid arriving from anywhere else. That is the standard arrangement across this corner of the internet, and the interesting question is never whether a site takes commission — it is which outcomes the commission rewards.

We are paid on both sides of the argument

This site exists to help you choose between WordPress and a hosted website builder. If we only earned on one of those, every article here would be quietly bent towards it, whatever the closing paragraph claimed.

So we hold partnerships in both directions. On the WordPress path, that means managed hosting companies and the page builders that run on top of them. On the builder path, it means the hosted website platforms that compete directly with all of it. If you read our cost comparison and conclude that a subscription beats WordPress for your project, we get paid. If you conclude the opposite, we also get paid.

Earning on both routes is not a footnote to our independence — it is the mechanism that makes it affordable. A site that only earns when you choose WordPress cannot honestly tell you when WordPress is the wrong answer.

Commissions do not move a score

Ratings and recommendations here come from published prices, documented capabilities and stated vendor terms. Commission rates are not an input, and we do not know or care which of our partners pays best when we write a verdict. The practical safeguards are simple: we show our arithmetic so you can check it, we name the loser of every comparison plainly, and we say when a figure comes from a secondary source or is our own estimate rather than a verified fact.

We do not sell reviews, accept payment for placement or coverage, or let a company approve an article before it goes out. Products we have nothing to gain from get recommended when they are the right answer — the free WordPress block editor, which earns us precisely nothing, is the recommendation on a good many of these pages.

How our links work

Every partner link on this site points at a path on our own domain beginning with /go/ — /go/kinsta, /go/elementor, /go/squarespace and so on. Clicking one redirects you to the vendor. We use that pattern for two reasons: it keeps tracking parameters out of the article text, and it means we can update or remove a partner in one place rather than editing dozens of pages.

The destination usually sets a cookie recording that you arrived from us, which is how the referral is credited. Blocking cookies means we do not get paid; it does not change your price or your experience, and you are welcome to do it.
