Privacy Policy

PressOrBuild is a publication, not a platform. We are not trying to build a profile of you, and the less data we hold the less there is to worry about. This page describes what we actually collect rather than what a template says we might.

What we collect

Less than you might expect. The first thing to know is what we do not collect: your email address. There is no newsletter, no mailing list and no signup field anywhere on this site, so there is no address for us to store and nothing to unsubscribe from. A sign-up box used to sit at the foot of our guides; it was never connected to anything, so it sent nothing and stored nothing, and it has been removed rather than left to suggest a list that does not exist.

The second is analytics, from two sources. Cloudflare, which serves the site, counts visits with its Web Analytics: no cookies, totals only. Google Analytics 4, run by Google LLC and, for readers in Europe, Google Ireland Ltd., records which pages you view, which site sent you here, your approximate location (city and country), your device and browser type, and how long your visit lasts. We look at that to decide what to write next. GA4 identifies a browser by a random number, not a name, and does not log or store IP addresses; we do not attempt to identify individual readers from it.

We have switched off GA4's advertising features, Google signals and ad personalisation. None of the data is used for advertising and none of it is sold.

Whether GA4 runs for you is settled by your device's time zone. In Europe — the EEA, the UK or Switzerland — a banner asks first, and Google receives nothing unless you choose Accept. Elsewhere it is on by default and you can turn it off at any time. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we count it as an opt-out. Your choice is saved in local storage as analytics-consent, not as a cookie, and cookie settings brings the banner back. Google's handling is covered by the Google Privacy Policy; Google's opt-out browser add-on blocks Google Analytics everywhere.

We do not ask for your name, your address, your phone number or your payment details, and there is nowhere on this site to enter them.

We do not sell your data

Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to the vendors we write about. We hold no reader email addresses, so there are none to rent, trade or hand to a partner. The only third parties that touch any of it are the two analytics providers named above, Cloudflare and Google.

Cookies

We set two, both for Google Analytics: _ga and _ga_<ID>. They last up to two years, are written only after analytics is allowed, and are deleted if you decline later. We do not run advertising cookies or third-party ad networks. If you follow one of our outbound partner links, the destination site may set its own cookies to record that the visit came from us — that is how the arrangement below works, and it is governed by that company's privacy policy rather than ours. Your browser settings can block or clear cookies at any time; nothing on this site breaks if you do.

Affiliate links

Some outbound links to hosts, page builders and website platforms earn us a commission if you buy. That is how the site is funded, it costs you nothing extra, and it does not change what we recommend. The mechanics — including which side of the argument each partner sits on — are set out in full in our affiliate disclosure.

Your data, and how to get rid of it

You can ask us what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. Email [email protected] and we will act on it — usually within a few working days, and in every case within the month that data protection law allows. You do not need to explain why, and asking will not get you removed from anything you did not ask to be removed from.

If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect, we will say so on this page rather than updating it quietly. This version is dated October 9, 2026, the day Google Analytics was added.
